The Langwies – A family affair

When everyone works towards the same goal and contributes their particular skills to its achievement, the result can be something truly special and a place where traditions can take root and thrive. This belief has shaped the character of our lodge hotel ever since its beginnings. Josef Putz laid the foundations for the Langwies, a family business with a long history, in 1863. Whenever a new generation takes over, a new chapter is added to this history that makes it even richer and even more colourful.

Following the goal of creating a place where a down to earth atmosphere meets innovation with boldness and passion was already in the first Josef's blood when he established the Langwies, and it has been passed down the generations as a matter of course, from Josef Putz to Herta and Peter Brunnauer, who completely modernised the Langwies and extended it, and on to Christa and the second Josef, who transformed it into a four-star hotel.

Great ideas and plans tend to thrive as well on our fertile soil as the glorious meadows that surround the estate. In 2021, the next generation of the family, now headed by Josef and Daniela Brunnauer, rang in a new era and wrote a new chapter with the extensive refurbishment of the Langwies and its transformation into a lodge hotel. Together with many helping hands, and always with the same goal: to make their guests feel so comfortable here that they'll want to stay an extra day.

of long meadows and deep roots

The history of the Langwies lodge hotel is one of continual new beginnings and change. However, it is also one of very deep roots that go as far back as the year 1357 and the first owner of the estate at the top of the "long meadow", which is the meaning of Langwies, a squire named Leopoldus de Langwies. When the Westbahn railway line was built, his former hunting lodge was converted into an inn that served plain but good food and also offered accommodation. The Putz family, which became the Brunnauer family later on, has governed the fate of this traditional hospitality establishment since 1863, adding ever more facets to it with each passing decade. The estate also became a working farm, for example, and was converted and considerably extended in the 1960s. The first accommodation for paying guests was added - resulting in a feel-good place that provided the fertile ground for the Langwies's current lodge hotel concept. It has been regularly tilled ever since. With foresight and sensitivity. Generation after generation. With an unbroken passion for hospitality and attentive service.

Langwies
green

Treating our environment with the utmost respect and making an active contribution to its conservation with climate protection measures is one of the main pillars of our philosophy. It influences the way we treat nature and the animals we farm on our estate, and governs the day-to-day work at our hotel and hospitality establishment, as we, and also the lodge hotel Langwies, can only remain well-balanced with an intact ecosystem.

In practical terms, this might mean, for example: Serving fresh produce from our own farm at our lodge hotel every day. Our building is heated by renewable energy, and our electricity is generated by solar power. We offer our conference guests "green meetings" surrounded by nature. We have our own in-house charging station for guests who visit us with an electric vehicle. Guests who prefer doing without a car in the first place can reach us conveniently by metropolitan railway. The station is only a few steps away from the lodge hotel; we will reimburse you the cost of the ticket (Salzburg – Bad Vigaun).

However, we also have by no means arrived where we want to be when it comes to sustainability. That is why we are continuously working on making the Langwies a little bit greener.
